7 restaurants to discover Quebec cider

Things to Do Featured Restaurant

In recent years, cider has been going through a revolution: gone is the old idea that it’s just alcoholic apple juice! Producers have shown that it deserves all the attention it’s getting, thanks to their refined, tasty, and easy-to-drink batches. The kind of bottle you’re happy to put on the table for a meal with friends!

A whole week (actually 11 days!) is dedicated to it each year. From May 4 to 14, 2023, a wave of cider will sweep across the province during Quebec Cider Week, now in its 7th edition. Producers, retailers, media, bars, and restaurants come together to celebrate this delicious local drink. Several of our restaurants in the Aliments du Québec au menu program will participate with tasty activities like tastings, brunches, and pairings. Here are seven places where you can join the festivities.

Laurie Raphaël

Capitale-Nationale

117 Dalhousie Street, Québec (QC) G1K 9C8

You can always expect a great meal at Laurie Raphaël. This renowned restaurant is expertly led by Chef Raphaël Vézina, who continues the mission the restaurant set over 30 years ago: to showcase gourmet cuisine that celebrates Quebec’s terroir and its many artisans. For Quebec Cider Week, the chef offers a sublime local pairing between Dans ma bulle Brut Zéro cider from Cidrerie Autour de la pomme and a puff pastry with Comtomme cheese, caramelized and pickled onions, and cranberries from Les Frères. The cheese-and-apple duo has never been so refined.

Au Pâturage – Espace Gourmand

Centre-du-Québec

2581 Rang Saint-Joseph, Sainte-Perpétue (QC) J0C 1R0

Cider for brunch? What a great idea! Chef Chloé Ouellet invites you to her restaurant in Sainte-Perpétue to discover a unique pairing of ciders with a three-course breakfast menu. At Au Pâturage – Espace Gourmand, the cuisine is local, even hyper-local: some ingredients are grown right in the restaurant’s backyard, while the rest come from small producers in the region and across the province. The menu changes regularly, depending on what’s in season. Housed in a former theater, the dining room offers an incredible view of the fields and the restaurant’s greenhouse. Truly, it’s a place where locavorism takes on a gourmet dimension.

Vin Polisson

Estrie

197 King Street West, Sherbrooke, QC J1H 1P4

It’s well known: we enjoy a product even more when we know its story and how it’s made. Vin Polisson understands this perfectly. To celebrate Quebec Cider Week, this restaurant in the heart of Sherbrooke invites you to discover Turbulence ciders during an evening of tasting, information, and meeting the makers. You’ll get to sip all six of the cidery’s brand-new batches exclusively. And if you fall in love—which is very likely—you can purchase these new vintages by the bottle on-site! A truly “glou-glou” evening, as they say!

Kebec Club Privé

Capitale-Nationale

767 Saint-Joseph East, Québec, QC, G1K 3C6

Cider, rich and flavorful, pairs perfectly with many foods—including snow crab, which is in season at the same time as Cider Week (what a lucky coincidence!). Even the finest crustacean can go beautifully with apple-based alcohol! Kebec Club Privé, a gourmet restaurant showcasing Quebec terroir products, invites you to enjoy a stunning pairing of snow crab, nasturtium, and chili with a glass of Pomme Bleue from Autour de la pomme. It’s a memorable evening that will delight all your senses!

At the Blanc Bec bar of ITHQ, you can enjoy a glass of cider and snack on Louis d’Or crackers for a perfect aperitif. Then continue your evening next door at the restaurant, where you can order more cider paired with your dinner. Located on the lively Saint-Denis Street in Montreal, the ITHQ restaurant is unique because the dishes are prepared by graduating students from the culinary program.
