Cooking affects the taste of corn

Good to know

Cooking corn may not be as complex as preparing a steak, but choosing the right method is key to maximizing the flavour of this delicious Québec-grown food. You have three options: boiling, grilling on the BBQ, or using the microwave.

Boiling

Have you ever thought of using milk instead of salted water? Surprisingly, boiling corn in 3.25% milk makes it creamier and sweeter. For larger quantities, such as during a corn roast, water is a more economical choice. Just make sure to salt it generously — it should taste like the sea! As for cooking time, 7 to 10 minutes is plenty.

BBQ

First, decide whether you want to grill your corn with or without the husk, as heat will work differently in each case. For the husk-on method, simply place the corn directly on a lightly oiled grill for 7 to 10 minutes. The steam created inside the husk will cook it through. For the husk-off method, the principle remains the same, but you’ll need to set your BBQ to a lower temperature. Note that this technique gives the corn a more pronounced, smoky flavour.

Microwave

Living a busy life? No need to miss out on corn. The microwave method is perfect for you. First, remove the husk and butter the corn. Then wrap it in plastic wrap. Depending on your microwave’s power, cooking time will vary from 1.5 to 4 minutes.
