In-Store Visibility: Creation of a Promotional Agents Team
As buying local becomes firmly rooted in Quebecers’ habits, the visibility of local products in stores is becoming a strategic issue for retailers. To respond to this growing enthusiasm and concretely guide consumers toward Quebec food products, Aliments du Québec is establishing a dedicated team of in-store promotional agents.
Guiding Consumers Toward Local Products
Revealed during the pandemic, Quebecers’ enthusiasm for buying local has been confirmed in recent months, particularly in the food sector. Consumers appear genuinely committed to supporting local products, primarily to back Quebec producers and processors.
In practical terms, to follow through on their commitment to increasing the share of local purchases, consumers are willing to pay closer attention once they are in-store.
“78% of consumers say that whenever they can, they make a conscious effort to choose a local option over one from elsewhere.*”

There are several ways to guide consumers toward choosing and purchasing local products. According to a study by NielsenIQ*, a firm specializing in consumer research, the most effective methods to help shoppers identify local food products in-store are:
- Origin logos displayed directly on price labels;
- Dedicated sections specifically reserved for local products.
Over the past 25 years, the Aliments du Québec logos have become trusted reference points for Quebecers when selecting local products. To date, the organization is the only entity that verifies and controls the origin of the products it certifies.

A Team in Action
With the creation of this new team, Aliments du Québec aims to enhance the visibility of the 25,000 products verified by the organization. Promotional agents will be tasked with making these products easier to identify in stores through tools such as shelf tags, signage, and more.
They will also support store teams in developing promotional initiatives, which are particularly effective when competitive pricing aligns with local products. Indeed, a study revealed that consumers are more responsive to promotions when they support a Quebec product.**
Through collaboration with various distributors and the Quebec Food Retailers Association, Aliments du Québec aims to become a preferred partner for retailers and to build strong, lasting business relationships based on trust.
