Enjoy local strawberries and raspberries year-round

Tips and Tricks

You can never have enough local strawberries and raspberries! With autumn berries, it’s the perfect time to stock up and enjoy these little delights throughout the colder months. Featured at many of your local markets right now, the quality is excellent, and so are the prices. Take advantage of this season to make sauces, jams, or simply fill your freezer with berries.

Whether you prefer making jam or freezing them, strawberries or raspberries, here are some tips from Fraîches du Québec.

Strawberries : Storage and Recipes

Good to know: once picked, strawberries do not continue to ripen! Make sure to choose fully red fruits, without any white or green spots.

Damaged berries will spoil quickly, so it’s important to separate them from the rest. They are perfect for making jam.

For storing strawberries, some steps should be done first: rinse thoroughly with cold water, dry, and hull the fruits.

Freezing is the best way to preserve strawberries naturally. First, place the berries on a baking sheet and freeze them. Then transfer them to an airtight container or freezer bag. A simple trick to prevent the strawberries from sticking together! They can be kept in the freezer for up to six months.
