Stratégie nationale d'achat d'aliments québécois (SNAAQ)

Discover how the Aliments du Québec au menu program can help you more easily integrate local foods into your institutional menus.

The Aliments du Québec au menu program is proud to serve as one of the key drivers of the Stratégie nationale d’achat d’aliments québécois (SNAAQ), launched by the ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ).

What is the SNAAQ?

The Strategy aims for 100% (±5%) of targeted Québec public institutions to establish a Québec food purchasing target by March 2026. The institutions concerned include those within the health and social services network, as well as those in the education and higher education sectors.

To bring public institutions closer to Québec’s biofood businesses, the strategy is structured around four main components :

  • Collaboration and engagement of public institutions
  • Support and guidance for public institutions
  • Strengthening the connection between supply and demand
  • Adapting Québec’s biofood offerings to the institutional market

What is a Québec food purchasing target?

Institutions have two options for setting their target:

  • A minimum number of dishes made with Québec foods
  • A proportion of Québec foods within total purchases

What is considered a Québec food?

A Québec food is one that has been grown, raised, or caught in Québec, or a food that has undergone a transformation in Québec by a business considered to be Québec-based—that is, one operating from an establishment located within the province.

With more than 28,000 verified products under Aliments du Québec or Aliments préparés au Québec, it’s easy to identify local foods.

Why obtain Aliments du Québec au menu recognition?

When an institution is recognized by the Aliments du Québec au menu program, it commits to meeting one of the two Québec food purchasing target options. By doing so, it automatically meets the objectives of the SNAAQ.

The program also relies on more than 1,800 member companies of Aliments du Québec to help stimulate a Québec biofood offering tailored to the institutional market. Aliments du Québec also helps highlight inspiring practices and initiatives across its network.
